Aspect Fit
Fit an image on a screen with letterboxing
How to use Aspect Fit
- 1Enter the source width and height of your image or video.
- 2Enter the target frame width and height you want to fit into.
- 3Read the fitted size, the scale factor, and whether letterbox or pillarbox bars are needed.
What is aspect-fit scaling?
scale = min(targetW / srcW, targetH / srcH); fittedW = srcW × scale; fittedH = srcH × scaleAspect-fit scales content so the entire source fits inside the target frame while keeping its original proportions.
The leftover space becomes letterbox bars (top/bottom) or pillarbox bars (left/right). Aspect-fill does the opposite, cropping to fill.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between fit and fill?
Fit preserves the whole image with possible bars; fill covers the frame but crops overflow.
Why do I get black bars?
Bars appear when the source and target aspect ratios differ; they keep the picture undistorted.
Does aspect-fit change file resolution?
No; it only changes how the source maps onto the target frame, not the source pixels.
