Time Duration

Calculate duration between two dates and times

How to use Time Duration

  1. 1Enter the start and end time, and if you cross midnight, take the date.
  2. 2Select output formats such as "hours + minutes" or "total minutes".
  3. 3Look at the time between the two moments.

Time after measurement

Length = End time - Start time (beginning over the sun)

The length is the interval between two reading tables; only one day and less at the end of the hour is required to cross midnight.

A single unit (e.g., minutes) is used to calculate an error in the value of the 60-minute interval.

The key to the calculation of the length of time is to distinguish between ** time (point in time)** and ** time (duration)**: 14:00 is time and "3 hours" is time. The two moments are reduced in length and the time plus the time is taken in another moment. The two types of data in the program are usually different (Date vs ms for JavaScript, Data vs timedelta for Python) and are commonly used as a bug source.

In conversion, it is recommended that** be harmonized to the smallest unit for operation**: to convert "2 hours 30 minutes 45 seconds" to 9045 seconds, after which additions and subtractions will be restored. Reverted with rounded offset: 9045 ÷ 3600 = 2 hours, remaining 1845; 1845 ÷ 60 = 30 minutes, remaining 45 seconds. This "exhaustible" approach can be extended to any evolution conversion (e.g. byte KB/MB/GB).

Frequently asked questions

What if it's after midnight?

Add 24 hours (or one day) before subtraction to make the result positive.

Why the total number of minutes?

The minute is a single unit, adding and comparing the hh:mm entry rule over time.

Can you handle the time zone?

This simple tool assumes that two times are in the same time zone; if different, convert first.

Could it be negative?

Mathematically available (expressing direction or debt). For example, the calculation of "projected time - actual time" indicates that the negative number is completed earlier. However, in business scenarios such as scheduling and attendance, the negative number of hours usually means that the input is wrong (end of time earlier than beginning) and a check-in is required. The situation across the sky (22:00 to 18:00 of the next day) should be added 24 hours before decreasing, rather than returning a negative number.

Why is the time code in the video clip 00:00:00?

The last two are ** frames** instead of decimal seconds. Formats " Time: minutes: seconds: frame " , and the range of the frame values depends on the frame: 0-23, 25 fps 0-24, 30 fps 0-29 at 24 fps. So one second = 00:00:01 for a 30-fps clip, you need to use the frame to get to a single image. This is why the frame ratio in the export setting must be matched, otherwise there will be no synchronization of the sound.
