Molarity Calculator
Calculate solution concentration from mass, moles, and volume
How to use Molarity Calculator
- 1Enter the moles of solute and the volume of solution in litres.
- 2Adjust units if the tool lets you switch between molar, millimolar, and so on.
- 3Read the concentration in moles per litre, or M.
Concentration as molarity
M = moles of solute / litres of solutionMolarity counts how many moles of a substance are dissolved in one litre of solution, the most common lab concentration unit.
Because it is per litre of final solution (not solvent), dilution changes molarity while the amount of solute stays the same.
Frequently asked questions
Moles vs molar, what is the difference?
A mole is an amount of substance; molar (M) is that amount per litre of solution.
How do I make a solution of a target M?
Dissolve the needed moles (mass divided by molar mass) and then add solvent up to the final volume.
Why does temperature matter?
Volume changes slightly with temperature, so molarity is technically temperature dependent; molality is not.
