BAC

Calculate blood alcohol content

These calculators provide general information only and are not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider.

How to use BAC

  1. 1Enter your sex, weight, number of standard drinks, and the hours spent drinking.
  2. 2Add the drink strength and duration if a detailed mode is available.
  3. 3Read your estimated blood alcohol concentration and the hours to sober up.

Estimating blood alcohol concentration

BAC = (A x 5.14 / W x r) - 0.015 x H (A=oz alcohol, W=lb, r=0.73/0.66)

BAC estimates how much alcohol is in the bloodstream using the amount consumed, body water, and time for metabolism, which removes about 0.015 percent per hour.

It is only an estimate; food, medications, sleep, and tolerance change the real effect. Never use a number to decide if you can drive.

Frequently asked questions

What is a standard drink?

Roughly 14 g of pure alcohol, about 350 ml beer, 150 ml wine, or 45 ml spirits, varying by strength.

Can I drive at 0.02 percent?

Laws differ and impairment begins with the first drink; if you have consumed alcohol, the safe choice is not to drive.

Why does sex change the result?

Average body water differs, so the same drinks produce a higher concentration for those with less water per kilogram.
