Median number of averages: first read distribution before average

When the average wage is raised by a few, the median is more representative of the true level of the average.

There are three commonly used indicators that describe a set of data `centres'. The average is the sum divided by the number, which is the most vulnerable to heat; the median is the number that ranks behind and is immune to extremes; the number is the highest. Selecting the wrong indicator, the conclusion may be the exact opposite, which is also the source of the term `average'.

What are the three indicators?

  • Moderate data on income, housing prices, etc. are more realistic
  • If you want to reward the general level, you can see the average.
  • The size of the costume, the implosion option.
  • The greater the gap, the more uneven the distribution of data.

For example, nine out of ten people go to 8,000 a month and 80,000 a month, averaging about 15,000, but the median is 8,000 — the latter is close to the sense of the majority. Understanding this would avoid being misled by the `average increase' in [percentage increase/decrease] (/percentage-increase-decrease). See the `average' distribution first: if a few extremes exist, the median is often more relevant than the average.

Practical application scene

In business and national statistics, median income and median housing prices are often given official priority because of their resistance to interference. When conducting the study, it is recommended that both averages and medians be given and that differences be indicated.
